United States Commemorative Postage Stamp Honoring America's "Cowboy Artist" Charles M. Russell (1864-1926)

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Russell lived in Montana as a youth. There he shared the life of the cowboy, and showed great compassion for the plight of the American Indian, all the while recording with bold strokes the people, the animals, and the places he knew so well. Through his memorable paintings and sculptures, Charles M. Russell brought to life the beauty and drama of the American West as only an ex-wrangler like himself could.

Stamp depicts Russell's painting "Jerked Down".
